Installation for Edge, Angler, Explorer, CoBra STV
Important DO NOT DRILL ANY HOLES PRIOR TO READING THE INSTRUCTIONS FULLY. REMOVING THE PROP MAY PROVIDE EASIER INSTALLATION ON SOME UNITS, BUT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICATIONS.
1). Tilt your motor or sterndrive to its fully up position. Place the stabilizer underneath the cavitation plate #12 Figure 1. Please note the #12 cavitation plate is the flat plate area on the lower unit that is just above the prop and additionally houses the torque tab.<->
On Johnson, Evirude motors the back of the cavitation plate is in the shape of a ( V ). On some OMC installations it may be required to file the top of the torque tab slightly to allow the stabilizer to slide between the cavitation plate (#12) and the tab (#18). Slide the stabilizer plate forward between the torque tab (if installed) and the motors cavitation plate covering the entire machined center cutout #1 Fig. 3. On all other motors slide the stabilizer forward so that the entire machined cutout #1 Fig.3 is covered and forward by 1/4 inch of the cavitation plate. PLEASE NOTE THE CUTOUT IS NOT INTENDED TO BE CENTERED ON THE TORQUE TAB.
1A). To install on Volvo Penta outdrives with thru the cavitation exhauts MAKE SURE THE STABILIZER IS POSITION AS FAR BACK AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE CENTER CUTOUT BEHIND THE END OF THE CAVITATION PLATE. Drill thru bottom and top on the front four bolts, the back two bolts at the end of the cavitation plate only require drilling thru the bottom of the plate and use the 5/8 inch bolts, nuts and washer.
2). At this point enlist the help of family or friend to hold the unit in place or use two C Clamps to hold in place. Make a final check to see that the unit is centered. Place a mark on the cavitation plate in the CENTER of each mounting hole. Remove the plate and using a 1/4" drill bit, drill the left and right center holes. Place the unit back and re-check the position of your marks on the remaining holes. Continue to drill the front holes then the back holes. THROUGHOUT INSTALLATION IS IS BEST TO RE-CHECK YOU MARKS AFTER EACH PAIR OF HOLES ARE DRILLED.
3). Install the plate by inserting the screws (#36 Fig. 2) from underneath the stabililzer unit. With the screws in place form underneath the unit the stainless washer is placed on top of the cavitation plate and followed by the self locking stop nut (38 Fig. 2). Spraying the bolts with WD40 will prevent binding and stripping of threads. INSTALL ALL BOLTS PROVIDED, EITHER SIX OR FOUR, FAILURE TO DO SO MAY AFFECT PERFORMANCE OR DAMAGE THE STABILIZER, CoBra Marine assumes no liability for improper installation and further voids you warranty.
4). Using a 7/16 wrench or socket, and phillips screw driver TIGHTEN THE NUTS CAREFULLY ALTERNATING FROM FRONT TO BACK TO CENTER, UNTIL THE UNIT IS SECURE WITH THE CAVITATION PLATE. PROPER TIGHTENING IS ACHIEVED AT 7 FT/LBS TORQUE. NUTS MUST BE TIGHT AND THE UNIT SECURE, CHECK EACH NUT AND RE-TIGHTEN AFTER THE FIRST SEVERAL USAGES, ALL BOLTS PROVIDED ARE NECESSARY FOR INSTALLATION.
